Since its launch in October 2010, D.I.A.D. Drop It And Drive has reached well over 3,500 students and adults throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. We have presented at the BC Crime Prevention Training Symposium and D.I.A.D.’s founder, Karen Bowman, was a presenter at the 2012 CAA/TIRF Driven to Distraction international conference in Toronto. 2011/2012 has us returning to last year’s schools as well as currently booked at a number of new schools in Surrey, Vancouver, Maple Ridge and Burnaby. Our popular corporate education program has expanded into Alberta and Ontario. We make every effort to accommodate all booking requests; however, our schedule tends to fill up quickly so we recommend early booking requests where possible.

As Founder, I pulled together a unique team of speakers including a retired Captain with the Surrey Fire Fighters, RCMP and Young Drivers of Canada. Our talk is energetic, hard hitting, improvisational and fully interactive with our audience. We hold their attention and challenge their ideas by frequently switching speakers, using PowerPoint presentations and carefully selected videos to ‘drive’ home the message. Our research is frequently updated to ensure all the media stories and studies are current.

The DIAD presentation is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced!

As we wrap up, comments heard as participants quietly file out range from, “I’ll never do that when I drive!” to “That was ‘sic’ man!” to the less obvious solemn reflection. At DIAD, we know how to get our audiences’ attention while keeping it engaging and informative.

The best part of what we do at D.I.A.D. Drop It And Drive is that we’re changing how people think about driving and by doing so are hopefully saving lives.

Driving may well be your right once you’re got a licence, but it’s more so your responsibility to keep yourself and others alive.

Contact us to find our more or make a booking for your high school, college, university, community group, organization or corporation. When travel expenses are covered or sponsored, we can deliver our presentations throughout British Columbia, Canada and the U.S.A.

Presenter Bios:

Karen Bowman: With 20 years experience in the public and private sectors in British Columbia and Ontario, Karen’s background includes business administration & consulting, project management, and communications. Karen has run a virtual workforce company since 2001 and in October 2010 founded Drop It And Drive with the idea to take a proactive approach to ending distracted driving by increasing education and awareness. The D.I.A.D. education campaign became a very personal cause after Karen’s 8-year-old daughter was hit by a distracted driver less than three months later.

Tim Baillie: Retired 27-year veteran and Captain of the Surrey Fire Department. Tim has worked on well over a thousand MVAs with extensive rescue experience. Tim’s experiences have lead to the belief that people have to learn the real consequences of their actions. Too many times others have to suffer for the avoidable actions of people. Increasingly people focus on their rights with little attention to their responsibilities to themselves and others.

Young Drivers of Canada: We are a highly-trained organization teaching our proprietary Collisionfree! Approach to Driving, and with the training of our customers we are committed to reducing the number of road deaths and injuries. We have over 40 years of training and development into our programs and have invested over 2 million dollars into our curriculum.

Cpl. Bryan Fedirchuk: 15+ years with the RCMP with 14+ years in traffic enforcement and investigation with a B.Educ (Secondary). He has 11 years experience as a collision analyst and has been a motor officer for13 years with the last 8 years as an instructor. Cpl Fedirchuk has investigated thousands of collisions and brings those experiences to our presentations.

Bob Nordlund: Retired 35-year veteran and Sergeant with the RCMP. Bob retired in 2011 after spending 26 plus years in traffic law enforcement and collision investigation. He worked traffic on both major freeways in the Lower Mainland plus traffic in the cities of Surrey and Burnaby. Bob has investigated thousands of crashes in his career and brings his personal thoughts and feelings about causes of crashes to the presentations.

I really like the new website design – I loved the previous one too! It is refreshing to go to a site and not meet with the same old visuals. It is also great to see more and more useful ‘tweaks’ and additions. The poster section with the view of the D.I.A.D. world from a child’s perspective is eye-opening and priceless. No doubt you would like to give ‘First Place’ to all the entrants – so great that you are reaching kids at the early ages with this awareness as well. Thanks for all your hard work and kudos to the team supporting this initiative.

Audrey, thanks for the wonderfully positive feedback & support. It’s very much appreciated.

Distracted Driving Prevention: Education & Advocacy

We deliver reality-based, interactive multi-speaker presentations throughout Canada about the dangers and consequences of distracted driving.

There are three forms of distraction: cognitive (mental); manual & visual, including texting, talking on hand-held devices, in-car passengers, adjusting music settings, eating, personal grooming, dressing/undressing, reading & allowing pets to travel on laps. All these activities contribute to taking eyes off the road and attention away from the demanding task of driving.

D.I.A.D.’s dynamic presentation is unlike anything else in Canada, delivering a powerful message with a combination of knowledge, personal experience, energy and humour.

D.I.A.D. Drop It And Drive works in partnership with the Surrey Fire Service; Young Drivers of Canada; the Surrey RCMP and with the support of Klein Lyons to deliver high energy, interactive talks.

Contact us to find out more information or to book a presentation at your school, college, university, community group, organization or corporation. Our elementary & high school presentations are 'NO FEE!' & fee-based sessions directly support those school presentations.
